Oh, Mr. Bones! – Part 3

The figures are primed and ready for me to begin painting. I always like to start with the skin. So in this step, I’ve painted the skin. The next step will be hair, eyes, lips, nipples, & any other dangly bits of anatomy.

I do need to make one minor correction. In the preparation post I said that the Bones figures had no flash. Indeed they did not have any flash, but once I put on my magna-viewer, I saw that some of the Bones figures did have small mold lines. You know, the kind you can’t see when the figure is on the table, but are monstrously vivid in a digital photograph.

All primed & ready to go. Notice how the gesso shrank away on the bases. When it does that on the mini, you have to do a 2nd coat.

I’m painting 6 figures for my 5150 collection & believe it or not, I have 5 different skin tones to paint. The bones figures took thinned paint just as well as the metal figures & so far I’m happy with the results.
This is the "fair" skin, using Reaper's paint triad

This is the "rosy" skin tone. One of my favorites.

This is the "tanned" skin. I hope Betty is training hard, this guy looks tough.

I decided to give this particular Grath gray skin. I figured if the Hishen were gray-blue & razors were gray, then their Grath lacky would be gray.

Finally, a young Xeog that hasn't yet turned blue.

Of course guys like this is the reason Detective Sgt. Sally Blue carries such a "big ass pistol!"

  1. are you going to be at Texicon Elaine.. If so I would like to buy one of your Pearl Miniatures. the one with the Blonde Brown hair with the Jacket hanging down in back and the 2 piece Bikini and the ammo belt around her waist and the pistol on her right hip. I would be willing to trade miniatures I have. I’d let you choose which one in trade for Pearl. Let me know if you would be willing to do so at Texicon 2014 Elaine. Richard

  2. Perhaps because I paint up units, my procedure is to plop 20 or so figures on the painting desk, and work on them all month. I’m interested in how a much smaller group of figures goes for you, particularly since some of my projects in the coming months are a bunch of miscellaneous Pulp Miniatures figures, and ultimately, all those Reaper figures I’ve bought up and haven’t gotten around to.
