The Painting Table – End of September

I know it isn’t quite the end of September, but looking at the figures in my paint queue, I won’t finish anything else until some time in October. I managed to complete 64 figures & 3 pieces of terrain this month (counting the bunker & the trench).

Rhaine, Rogue

This is a lovely figure from Reaper’s Dark Heaven Legends line – 03311 Rhaine, Rogue, sculpted by Werner Klocke. She could be used as a rogue, pirate, duelist or adventurer. Her costume could just as easily place her in the Renaissance to the 18th Century as well as a fantasy setting. In other words, she would work in Talomir Tales, A Bottle of Rum and By Savvy and Steel rule sets from Two Hour Wargames.

GW/Citadel Dwarf

I’ve probably mentioned this before, but I’m slowly repainting and painting unfinished figures from my 1990s GW Dwarf Army. Here’s one more done. (Since I no longer play Warhammer, I’m not in too much of a hurry to get these done.) My entire Dwarf army is sadly out of production, so there isn’t a reseller I can link to.

Zanzibari Arab Slaver

While I have a large enough Darkest Africa collection to play almost any game, I still have figures which haven’t been painted, so like the GW figures, I’m in no hurry to paint them all up at this time. But I do like playing games set in the late 19th and early 20th century. This figure is from Wargames Foundry’s Darkest Africa line – DA043 Zanzibaris: Armed to the Teeth.

Athenian Hoplites

Another unit of tiny democrats is finished. I’ve finished the main Athenian contingent at the First Battle of Mantinea, I just need to finish their Thracian skirmishers. The presence of this Athenian force at this battle broke the truce between Sparta and Athens allowing the Peloponnesian War to resume. According to Thucydides consisted of 1,000 hoplites and 300 horse under the command of Laches and Nicostratus. One commanded the infantry and the other commanded the cavalry. They were placed on the extreme left end of the line. The figures are all from Baccus 6mm Miniatures.

Soviet Rifle Platoon

What I’m most proud about completing this month is the figures for my WWII Soviet Female Rifle Platoon from Bad Squiddo Games. I purchased both the Urrah! Deal and the Platoon Deal. I painted up the figures from the Urrah! Deal back in July before I was inflicted with the plague. And now with the completion of the figures from the Platoon Deal, I’m ready to start playing a Nuts! campaign. I’ll cover these figures in more detail in another post where I will show how the units are organized.

She’s Back! The Return of Ashlynn Cooper

That’s right, the figure used in the early days of 5150 games is now in the Floozy’s collection. She needed a face lift and her wardrobe refreshed. She had beady eyes & no lipstick, so I repainted the face, redid the hair adding highlights; brightened up the dress & shoes with new highlights and the legs – Lord have mercy, those legs….. What happened to this model was that the spray primer went awry leaving a bumpy rough surface in some areas. A big reason I stopped using spray primers from rattle cans. Her legs looked as hairy as mine at the start of Spring after a long Winter of wearing long pants. Lol. Anyway I smoothed out the legs and used a darker shade to give her some stockings. Then I remembered what Pearl said – Ashlynn Cooper has “man hands.” But, Pearl & Ashlynn have never gotten along, it goes all the way back to the Mudd Street riots where the “working girls” made war on the pimps and the syndicate. Ashlynn was a young rookie reporter & Pearl a young – er, “working girl”, when their paths first crossed.

In these pictures, Ashlynn is interviewing a Roladan from ZombieSmith in front Starship console from the Reaper Bones line. I’m not sure where the Ashlynn figure came from she looks like a Mark Copplestone or Steve Selah sculpt. She was on a slotta base, so she isn’t fro Foundry or Copplestone Castiings.

The Count

Now we look at our progress on the year in an attempt to reduce the “pile of shame” – the boxes & boxes of unpainted miniatures laying about my house. So, this month saw the completion of 64 miniatures bringing this year’s total to 389.
