As far as I can tell “Mestre de Camp General Dragons” is a long-winded, flowery, obtuse way of saying “2nd Dragoons.” But I suppose in an age where regiments and commissions were bought and sold, a fancy name can bring a better price. Kind of like a few years ago when people were “oohing” and “ahhing” on the weathering pigments my youngest brother had used on a tank which turned out to be eye shadows he had found in the cosmetics aisle at Wal-Mart.
Regardless of the fancy name, the Mestre de Camp General Dragoons took part in the battle of Hastenbeck (where it fought dismounted) and the battle of Krefeld. It also took part in several smaller engagements and skirmishes such as the engagement at Hoya. In 1759, the regiment was returned to France to guard the coasts.
The figures are 10mm from Pendraken Miniatures. When I first applied the red and white base coats to the uniform, they looked like Christmas Elves until I finished the highlighting. To make the red pop, I used Reaper’s Clear Red mixed with Daler Rowney Fluorescent Pink for the highlighting. I’m learning that when painting 10mm & 6mm figures, you have to use brighter colors to keep them from looking “muddy brown” on the table.
With luck, I will soon have all the figures painted for the engagement (small battle, really) at Hoya. The next step will be to tackle the terrain and buildings for part of the city.
The last picture is a comparison of mounted 10mm figures next to a mounted 28mm figure. Before the more astute among you can complain I’m comparing apples to oranges since she is riding a mule, the mule is the size of a horse.

I’ve been waiting until the end of the month to base my painted miniatures, photograph them and then showcase them in a large post. I’m thinking of going back to this format where I completely finish a batch of figures before starting the next ones. What do you think?

Really nice cavalry, makes me appreciate those smaller scales I don’t generally visit.
I sometimes wonder whether it’s worth doing instalments too but I’ve been doing just that myself recently. I find it helps me, the modeller, keep on track.And I certainly still appreciate progress reports in others blogs too, but it really comes down to what’s best for you as the blogger. If you prefer end of project posts, then I’ll enjoy that just as much too! 🙂
