Stuck on Stucco

While waiting for paint to dry, literally when using a glaze technique you need to let the paint completely dry before applying the next coat (unless you want to blend colors & that’s a whole other subject) – back on topic – whenever I reach a point in miniature painting or any other task when I have to stop for a short while, I’ve been working on terrain. I need ruins for a bombed out urban area.

If you are like me, it took you a short while to figure out that the paper does not peel off some brands of foamboard. Ironically, it is the cheaper brands found in your local dollar store which is ideal for crafting. Anyway, I had some scraps where I had tried peeling off the paper & ended up with a fuzzy mess. Then it dawned on me, the fuzzy scraps when painted might pass as a stucco wall. There may be places in the world where a stucco plaster is smooth, but in West Texas & New Mexico, the stucco out there is bumpy.

Stucco, like concrete & mud bricks, is found everywhere. It’s a simple construction technique which will probably still be used far into the future. So for this set of ruined walls, I tried to represent stucco walls for the table top.

Here’s a shot where part of an enterprising naval brigade is using the ruins for a pom-pom gun emplacement.

Here’s a figure I painted at the first of the month as a gift. She’s 3D printed & has a bit of an attitude. At first, I thought she was too big for 28mm heroic scale, but you have to consider she’s wearing platform shoes & has at least a 10′-12″ mohawk. She actually is the same size at GWs current Ncromunda minis.
