Snakemen from North Star

The folk at North Star Military Figures have released several boxes of economical figures to support skirmish games from Osprey Publishing such as Frostgrave, Stargrave, Oathmark, and Rangers of Shadowdeep. Each box contains twenty figures with several options for weapons and poses.

These figures are perfect for any miniature agnostic games whether Yuan-Ti for Dungeons & Dragons, Nagakin for GURPS, Nagaji and Serpent Folk for Pathfinder or Snakemen for Legends of Araby from Two Hour Wargames – you get the picture, a creature with a human torso & legs with scaly skin and a snake’s head.

Let’s get picky! The biggest problem I had with these figures was that most left arm options were a clenched fist held close to the body. This made attaching the curved rectangular Roman type of shield nearly impossible to attach. I wanted a more primitive look, so I chose some oval shaped shields from my bits box instead. Also, I removed the bows from a few of the left arms to get some poses where the left arm wasn’t against the body.

All in all, these figures will make great minions and henchmen. You can purchase them directly from North Star in the U.K., Brigade Games and Badger Games in the U.S. and they pop up from time to time on Amazon and Miniatures Marketplace.

Serpentmen for WHAT

As I mentioned earlier, Serpentmen are found in Legends of Araby. Their close cousins, the lizardmen, are found in Lagaria. Here’s a decent table for them in WHAT:

Serpentman Poison

If a Character loses a round of melee to a Serpentman, there is a chance he or she becomes “poisoned.” After the melee is over, both the Character and the Serpentman, even if now dead, roll 2d6 versus their Rep on the Serpentman Poison Table.
