From the Painting Table – July 15

It has been absolute chaos at Floozy Manor the last few days. A few days ago, the overworked AC unit fried itself. The only thing worse than losing AC in July is losing AC in August. Anyway, went through several vendors who couldn’t get a technician on-site until next week, I found one that would come out that day. The catch was, that a house that was built 40 years ago now has an electrical panel that seriously violates current fire codes. They couldn’t work on the AC unless the electrical panel was replaced. When the inside of your house is 97 degrees. you become delirious as well as desperate. A few hot miserable days later, the Floozy has a new electrical panel, upgraded wiring throughout the house, new duct work, and a spiffy new AC unit. However, the Floozy is also another $40K in debt.

A sweaty old Floozy near heatstroke did not do any painting or gaming. As luck would have it, the day before the AC died, I finished painting the Askaris Advance pack from Wargames Foundry.

My house is much like my health. The years of neglect have caught up to us and if we are to last longer we have to make some improvements. I found this cartoon the other day that captures the way I feel about the changes in my diet.

Anyway, that’s all I have today. Your comments, suggestions and encouragement are always appreciated. Let me know how you are doing in this very hot summer.

We’ve had A/C for three years now. Prior to getting it, we would use fans to blow the house full of cool-ish air overnight, do everything that needed doing on the top floor before 10:00, move down to the living room for a couple hours, then down to the bottom level and hope we didn’t melt before the sun set. We’re happy with our A/C, particularly since my painting room is on the top floor!

In the Icelandic sagas, people are frequently described by what they are wearing–not quite like modern police announcing, “The suspect was last seen wearing a brown hoodie and jeans,” but you get the idea. I’ve wondered about incorporating that in games. Yes, we are going to fight the entire tribe, but I have a particular beef with the guy in the green and yellow kilt. I can appreciate that a bunch of such issues would slow the game down, but I wonder if one or two might add some personality to the game.

Nice painting, by the way. Enjoy your cool!

  2. Hang in there lady. Things will get better.

  3. Nice figures.
I like the scenery in the background, especially the obelisk thingy!

  4. I feel the same about my dieting. ๐Ÿ™‚ Glad you got the ac back, sucks about the cost though…

    Sending cooling positive vibes.
