Florinda Carreira

One of the things a new project does is that it forces me to paint figures that have been languishing in the “pile of shame” for several years. To represent Florinda Carreira, I chose Reaper’s Melisande Wavecutter from their Dark Heavens range. I love the big hat, but it makes photographing the mini harder.

Florinda was originally supposed to be a sorceress and Taji Mbutzi was originally supposed to be a fighter. Well, I got the Pathfinder 2e Advanced Players Guide and decided Taji’s class should be a witch – something about being a clueless magic user piqued my interest. Well, a party can’t have too many magic users, so I needed a different class for Florinda, and another interesting class in the Advanced Players Guide jumped out at me – the swashbuckler.

Florinda’s Background

Florinda Carreira is from Cheliax. To me, Cheliax is a nation in Pathfinder which resembles Spain and Portugal in the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. Like Spain and Portugal, Cheliax was one of the first nations to set up colonies on different continents of Golarion. So, I found her a Portuguese name. She is second in command of a party of adventurers seeking treasure in the Mwangi Expanse.

She is a wanted criminal of sorts, though the victim of her crime is too embarrassed to press charges in public. Yes, an all-too-common pattern among female adventurers, Florinda ran away from an arranged wedding taking the dowery with her to finance her adventures.

Project Progress

When I started this project, I thought it would be an easy way for a lazy gamer like me to use an established setting in which to play a WHAT (Warrior Heroes Adventures in Talomir) campaign. Instead, it has turned into a bit of work. I’m not complaining, mind you, but learning Pathfinder and distilling its flavor and detail into the mechanics of WHAT is challenging.

One of the decisions I have had to make is translating a character’s level in Pathfinder to the appropriate reputation, or Rep, in WHAT. Here’s what I’ve come up with so far:

LevelRep
1 to 43
5 to 104
11 to 165
17 to 206

Florinda Carreira and Taji MButzi, as well as the rest of the adventuring party will start the campaign as level one or Rep 3 characters. This means they have to pick their fights wisely and know when to run away.

Conclusion

See, I may have outsmarted myself. When I came across the Pathfinder Mwangi Expanse book, I thought “Hey, I’ve got all of this African terrain and miniatures, why not do a fantasy campaign alongside my African campaigns?” Fun idea, but it has turned out to be more work than I thought. But still, who doesn’t like a good challenge? Let me know what you think! Comments and suggestions are always welcome.
